Update #38: Leveling up the game's art!

    Happy New Year, everyone!

    We hope you had a wonderful end of the year. Over at AutoAttack Games, we had a super productive year working on Legion TD 2. Now we set our eyes on early 2017 for the game's release in beta.

    Leveling up the game's art!

    One of our major undertakings is upgrading the game's art assets. We're working with top talent from around the world (Chile, Germany, India, Korea, Romania, Russia, The Netherlands, The United States, and Turkey) to make this happen.


    We'll be releasing a ton of this content in the next 1-2 months. In the meantime, here's a sneak peek into what you'll see:

    UNIT RECONCEPTS
    A small handful of units, such as Antler, were missing the mark. We're redoing these units!

    ICON IMPROVEMENTS
    Most of our old icons were concept art crops. Now we're giving every unit an awesome new icon.

    UNIT RETEXTURES
    We're doing a pass on all unit textures to improve their coolness and in-game readability.

    MODEL OPTIMIZATIONS
    We're optimizing models to improve in-game performance and readability. This helps ensure that the game runs well on your computer.

    December Development Highlights

    GAME DESIGN

    • Created a new system for attack and defense types
    • Re-designed creature waves (order, quantity, spells, etc.)
    • Balancing units and re-designing spells
    PROGRAMMING
    • Designed working AI with varying difficulties and "personalities"
    • Working on game lobby/client UI
    ART
    • Working on models and animations for remaining units
    • Reconcepting a small handful of units
    • Improving unit textures
    • Improving unit icons

    It wasn't my priority but the icons indeed needed a change, i didnt like the first icons, the new mudman icon is waaaay better

    Not bad , but I think need add new colors in art (like this)

    For anyone doubting the importance of model optimization:
    1. What gives most of the "high res" look is actually the texture, although more polygons are very useful for 3d faces;
    2. Reducing the polygon amount in a quarter (as in the example) basically makes the game 4x easier to run (not adding textures n' stuff), and this is a game with a big amount of units acting all at the same time.

    Besides that, I'm really excited to know more about the development highlights! Everything looking very good so far :D

    This is so awesome, really! And really nice that you show stuff like this. I was super worried about the antler. But this looks amazing and not stupid, I'm loving it. Also the icon, if they all are as awesome as the example, I'm hyped :)
    Keep it up guys, you get us more and more excited xD

    I like it, darker atmosphere is better than faery for LTD2.

    I honestly like this new units way more aswell. This "cute, faery and totaly not fighter-looking" units didnt realy meet my taste.

    I would prefer less "silly" models and more "serious" ones ^.^
